Sago palm
Very popular in warmer climates (like the South), this household and outdoor plant can
be very harmful to pets. If ingested, the leaves and seeds can cause
vomiting, bloody stools, damage to the stomach lining, severe liver
failure and, in some cases, death.
If you notice your dog chewing on any part of the plant, contact Pet Poison Helpline or your veterinarian for advice on treatment. As with most poisons, the SOONER you identify the problem and treat it, the better the prognosis. Without treatment, sago palm toxicity can result in severe, irreversible liver failure, and prompt treatment is always needed for the best prognosis for your dog!
